The International Astronomical Union (IAU) made the cosmic designation, changing the asteroid's previous identifier from 2013 AS24 to (669588) Pazura.
Discovered on January 4, 2013, by Polish astronomers Michał Kusiak and Michał Żołnowski at the Rantiga Observatory in Tincana, Italy, this celestial body now honors one of Poland's most beloved actors.
Pazura, celebrated for his extensive career in film, television, and theater, as well as his work as a director and YouTube personality, has made a significant mark both on Polish soil, and now, symbolically, in space.
The naming process, overseen by a special committee of the IAU, allows discoverers to propose names once an asteroid’s orbit is well established. Pazura joins about a hundred other asteroids named in connection to Poland.
