Polish wages up y/y in Q1 2022: stats office

The average monthly wage in Poland in the first quarter of this year rose by 9.7 percent compared with the same quarter of 2021, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported on Wednesday.

The average gross monthly wage in the first quarter of 2022 was PLN 6,235.22 (EUR 1,336, USD 1,409), the statistics office said.

The figure was 4 percent up on the final quarter of last year, according to the office.

The state-run statistics agency reported last month that average wages in Poland's corporate sector rose 12.4 percent in March compared with the same month a year earlier.

Inflation in Poland stood at 12.3 percent in year-on-year terms in April, hitting the highest level this century, according to a flash estimate released by the Central Statistical Office at the end of last month.

Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Tuesday unveiled a bill to assist mortgage customers amid inflation and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
