The suspect, identified only as Piotr U., was arrested in the central city of Bełchatów, according to Stanisław Żaryn, the spokesman for Poland’s security services.
Żaryn said on Monday that the detained man had been posting rude and offensive statements on Facebook that "contained falsehoods" addressed to President Andrzej Duda, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The suspect is also believed to have used social media “to call for the killing of the president, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and police officers,” reporters were told.
Piotr U. has denied the charges, saying he had only been expressing his views and did not offend anyone. "The court decided to arrest him for three months," Żaryn told reporters.
“Piotr U. is the first suspect in this case,” Żaryn said in a statement.
"The case continues," he added.
