Szymon Hołownia and Mark Brzezinski held talks in Warsaw on Monday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The Polish lower-house Speaker and the US ambassador discussed "a cross-section of issues" in the course of a "friendly conversation," officials told reporters.
Hołownia, who heads the centre-right Poland 2050 grouping, was elected house Speaker in mid-November by a bloc of pro-European Union opposition parties expected to assume power in Poland on December 11.
Poland's top lawmaker and the US envoy discussed "security issues," including the war in Ukraine, given the "strong support and presence of American troops in the region," the PAP news agency reported.
Brzezinski said it was important for Washington that Poland "plays an active role" in the EU and "works harmoniously" with other member states, a position that was shared by Hołownia, according to an announcement.
Another topic was nuclear energy, including Poland's first nuclear power plant slated for launch in 2033 using US technology, the PAP news agency reported.
Hołownia stated that Poland's new government would develop nuclear energy "as a matter of priority."
The two also discussed "parliamentary cooperation" between Polish and American lawmakers, stressing that Poland's parliament and the US Congress would "work actively together," the PAP news agency reported.
Poland and the United States are allies and this won't change under Poland's new coalition government," said Michał Kobosko, a deputy leader of the Poland 2050 group.
