A new round of opinion polls published in the last few days shows the leader of the ruling coalition (KO - Civic Coalition) extending its lead at the expense of Law and Justice.

One poll, carried out by United Surveys for Wirtualna Polska, shows Tusk's Civic Coalition (KO) extending its lead to 4.4% - 32.6% to the 28.2% of its nearest rival, Law and Justice (PiS).

WP summarises this result as an "extended honeymoon" for the new government. However, the growing popularity would seem by no means to be merely the result of a "breath of fresh air" provided by the change of government.

The "honeymoon" has been characterised by the widely praised public performances of Hołownia, Tusk and foreign minister Radosław Sikorski, as well as a series of blows dealt to the credibility of the previous government by the televised work of parliamentary committees, investigating the government use of Pegasus spyware, election organisation and other matters.

As WP comments, PiS has attempted to fight back on Ukrainian grain imports and the government has not escaped its own controversies surrounding its "takeover" of state media. Yet these factors have not outweighed the new government's "plusses" in the eyes of voters.

The United Surveys poll shows the right-wing Konfederacja extending its level of support by 1.1% to 9.1% and The Left dropping significantly by 1.7% to 8.5%.

However, another opinion poll, carried out by IPSOS for the left-leaning tok.fm and oko.press, still has Law and Justice pipping Civic Coalition to the post with 30% and 29% respectively. This poll nevertheless shows a decline in PiS support (consistent with other polls) and a rise for KO, compared to previous periods.

Other polls cited by wyborcza.pl give KO a greater lead still.
