The incident took place on Wednesday near Dubicze Cerkiewne, eastern Poland. The soldiers were hit in the face with dangerous weapons and had to have their wounds stitched up.
"This is another case of an attack on Polish services this week," the Border Guard official informed. One of the soldiers who was stabbed with a makeshift spear by migrants attempting to breach the border barrier early on Tuesday is currently fighting for his life.
This incident was one of the reasons behind the decision to reinstate a 200-meter buffer zone on the border with Belarus. "It was recommended to us that we should quickly restore the zone in this area where possible," Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, said during a visit to the border on Wednesday morning.
"We are ready to make such a decision at the beginning of next week," he told a news conference in the eastern village of Dubicze Cerkiewne.
Polish prosecutors have classified Tuesday's incident as attempted murder, state news agency PAP reported.
