The hospital in the central town of Pabianice is the first in Poland to be fined for refusing to terminate a pregnancy under new government regulations that require publicly funded health centers to provide such procedures.
Hospital managers say the abortion was not performed because the woman did not provide a complete set of documents with diagnostic test results qualifying her for the procedure.
Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna said similar irregularities may have occurred in two other hospitals in the country.
The Pabianice Medical Center has vowed to appeal the decision.
