The medical examinations showed that the man found by the rescuers on Saturday did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. "He is in a stable condition, and has respiratory as well as circulatory efficiency" - Tomasz Świerkot, Sosnowiec's Saint Barbara Provincial Specialist Hospital No. 5 spokesman told the PAP agency on Sunday.

A strong quake in the Rydułtowy mine occurred on Thursday. 78 miners were in the endangered area 1,150 m underground, carrying out maintenance work on machines and equipment. 76 of them managed to withdraw to the surface, and 17 from that group were taken to hospitals. Their lives are not in danger, some of the injured returned home the same day.

The search for the 2 remaining miners had been ongoing since Thursday morning. In the evening on that day, the Polish Mining Group that runs the mine announced that one of them was found, but didn't survive the collapse. The second miner was found alive and in communicative condition on Saturday, two days after the disaster.

"The patient was transported to our unit on Saturday evening. He was taken to the emergency department, where he underwent tests and full diagnostics. He has contusions and wounds that were treated" - Tomasz Świerkot continued. The miner suffered some spinal injury though, and further decisions about his treatment will be made at the hospital's clinical orthopaedics department.

The Rydułtowy mine is one of the oldest active mining plants in Poland's Upper Silesia region, and its origins date back to 1792.
