Speaking to Polish public broadcaster TVP Info on Monday, Sikorski said: "We are meeting with both the current administration and the alternative administration."

Following an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally that left former US President Donald Trump lightly wounded and one person dead, Sikorski said it was too early to predict the attack's impact on the nation's presidential election this fall.

"During every trip, I make sure that I also meet with Trump's people," Sikorski told TVP Info, declaring that the government in Warsaw "does not favor any one side" in America, unlike the previous Polish administration, which he said "heavily backed Trump in 2020."

In the interview, Sikorski also addressed the ambiguity surrounding Trump's stance on transatlantic cooperation and NATO.

Referring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Polish foreign minister said that "some in Trump's circle" understand that forcing Vladimir Putin, rather than Ukraine, into peace is crucial.

"Some of his people understand that it is not Ukraine that needs to be forced to make peace, but Putin - that perhaps the way to end this war is to threaten Putin with an escalation of aid to Ukraine," Sikorski said.

Trump, who has been officially nominated by the Republican Party to run again for the White House, will face incumbent President Joe Biden in the November election.
