President reclaims spot as Poland’s most trusted politician

President Andrzej Duda has regained his position as Poland’s most trusted politician, with 49 percent of respondents in a new survey expressing confidence in him.

Pollster CBOS said trust in the president increased by 4 percentage points compared with a similar survey a month earlier.

At the same time, 41 percent of respondents said they did not trust Duda, a decrease of 1 percentage point from last month, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Upper-house Speaker Szymon Hołownia, who previously topped the list, was named the second-most trusted politician in the country, with 48 percent of those surveyed saying they have confidence in him.

Warsaw Mayor and former presidential candidate Rafał Trzaskowski came in third, with 45 percent, ahead of Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in fourth place, with 44 percent, the CBOS poll found.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Jarosław Kaczyński and former conservative Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki are the most distrusted politicians in the country, followed by current Prime Minister Donald Tusk, according to the survey.

Fifty-five percent of respondents said they distrusted Kaczyński, while 51 percent expressed distrust in Morawiecki.

Forty-seven percent said they distrusted Tusk, CBOS reported.

The survey was carried out from July 4 to 14 on a sample of 1,076 respondents.
