Rescue services were alerted to chlorine poisoning at the Polonez swimming pool in the Polish capital’s Targówek district on Friday evening.
Preliminary tests revealed that chlorine levels in the water were “ten times higher than the safe limit at the bottom of the pool and three times the acceptable level near the surface,” public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
As a result, 21 people were taken to hospitals with symptoms of chlorine poisoning. Four children were still under observation in Polish hospitals on Saturday morning, according to local police.
The services reported on Saturday that three employees of the swimming pool were detained for their direct involvement with the pool's infrastructure.
