The discussions will focus on Polish-American defense cooperation, security guarantees, and upcoming military equipment purchases, according to the Polish Ministry of National Defense.
The visit by Poland’s defense leadership to the United States coincides with the presentation of the first F-35 multi-role aircraft destined for the Polish Air Force. The ceremony, held at the Lockheed Martin factory in Fort Worth, Texas, was attended on Wednesday by Deputy Defense Ministers Paweł Bejda and Cezary Tomczyk.
On Thursday, Kosiniak-Kamysz will meet directly with Austin at the Pentagon.
In remarks to journalists, Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized the importance of the meeting, highlighting discussions on security guarantees, bilateral cooperation, and the swift transfer of military technology to Poland.
"My visit to Washington is very significant. I will meet with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon to discuss security guarantees, cooperation, and the planned purchases of military equipment. The coordination of these activities is crucial, especially so soon after the NATO summit. Receiving an invitation from the U.S. Secretary of Defense underscores the strength of our partnership," Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.
Poland is set to formally receive the first of 32 American F-35 fighter jets in August as part of a contract that includes spare engines, mission simulators, operational support, and training for pilots and ground crews. The acquisition of the 5th generation F-35 Lightning II aircraft marks a significant upgrade for the Polish Air Force.
