Former Warsaw Mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz told the Polish state news agency PAP that she does not rule out becoming a Member of the European Parliament, taking over the position from Marcin Kierwiński (Civic Coalition), who is set to be the government's representative for flood recovery. This change has not yet been officially confirmed.
As reported by Radio Poland, MEP Marcin Kierwiński was appointed the government's representative for flood recovery. Following Prime Minister Donald Tusk's announcement, Kierwiński agreed to step down from his position as an MEP to rejoin the government.
In an interview with PAP, the former Warsaw Mayor confirmed that her formal assumption of the MEP position requires procedural steps to be completed by her predecessor.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to accept the mandate, especially since nearly one hundred thousand people trusted me in the elections," Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz reiterated her decision, this time in an interview with the local news service tvnwarszawa.pl.
In the June European Parliament elections, Marcin Kierwiński won his seat with 143,179 votes as a candidate from the Civic Coalition's list in Warsaw. He was joined by fellow Civic Coalition members Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, who received 137,811 votes, and Michał Szczerba, who garnered 120,667 votes.
Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the former Mayor of Warsaw, came in fourth on the Civic Coalition's list with 94,474 votes, but it wasn't sufficient for her to win a seat in the European Parliament at that time.
