"Last week, charges were brought against a Russian national suspected of organizing the beating" of Leonid Volkov on March 12, the prosecutor's office said in a statement on Friday.

"In the following months, more people were arrested. Currently, there are eight suspects in the investigation, of which four are subject to a preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest", the office said in a statement.

The statement only named the man as Anatoly B, saying he had been detained on September 13 in Poland, according to AFP News Agency.

As the prosecutor’s office informed, the man is accused of being behind the attack, motivated by Volkov's "political activity. He is one of eight people under investigation for attacks on members of the Russian opposition linked to the Anti-Corruption Foundation, founded by Navalny, the statement added.

Among the suspects are six Polish nationals and one Belarusian.

Poland’s national prosecutor’s office said that Anatoly B would be held for at least three months.
