Poland's Head of Diplomacy, Radoslaw Sikorski, told reporters that the President did not inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about plans for a meeting with the former US President.
In an interview with Polish Radio, Sikorski suggested that such a meeting would be siding with Trump in the American presidential election.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that Andrzej Duda had already met with Trump during his trial for allegedly bribing a porn actress. "I believe this could be beneficial because Poland should maintain communication channels with both sides," he said. Radosław Sikorski pointed out, however, that the meeting at the American Częstochowa was taking place at a time when voting had already begun in some US states. The head of Polish diplomacy recalled that the head of President Andrzej Duda's cabinet had taken part in Trump's election convention.
"Such meetings with foreign leaders are not considered customary in the US," he said. Asked how his planned meetings with the Polish diaspora would differ from the already canceled meeting between Presidents Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump, the minister replied that he would not call for support for either candidate. "However, I am very glad that the Polish diaspora as a whole is a factor in these elections," he added.
Radosław Sikorski reported that Andrzej Duda and his office did not inform him about the plans to meet with Donald Trump. The minister added that he did not later ask the Polish president's office about the circumstances of the event and the reasons for canceling Trump's visit to the American Częstochowa.
