A new poll from IBRiS for Polsat brings bad news for Donald Tusk and his party Civic Coalition in particular and the entire ruling coalition in general.
Law and Justice (the head of Poland's government from 2015 to 2023) has regained the top spot edging out Civic Coalition with 31.3% to the latter's 30.7%. Next comes the nationalist-liberation Konfederacja with 9.8%, followed by the two other ruling coalition members Third Way (9.3%) and The Left (7.3%).
Poland's press is unusually unified in its criticism of the government on its "first birthday" (As President Duda gave the first opportunity to his own Law and Justice to form a government, Tusk took office on 13 December 2023, ten months ago, not twelve.)
From the left, Gazeta Wyborcza is critical of Tusk's failure to implement election promises regarding abortion, as well as a general perceived egocentrism in focussing on short-term political expediency, rather than substantive policy.
The pro-PiS WPolityce is jubilant with the sarcastic headline, "Success for Tusk's Government!"
