Sutryk denies the allegations and refuses to step down as Mayor of Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia in southwestern Poland.
After hours of questioning, he was released on a PLN 200,000 (approx. €46,300) bail, with police supervision and a ban on contacting others involved in the case.
Tomasz Tadla, head of the Silesian branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed that four people were recently detained in connection with obtaining fake diplomas from Collegium Humanum, involving acts of corruption.
The former vice-rector of the university and his wife face potential arrest, while Wrocław Mayor Jacek Sutryk and another individual were released with non-custodial preventive measures.
55 charged in investigation into Collegium Humanum scandal in Poland
So far, 55 individuals have been charged in the investigation related to Collegium Humanum, with a total of 196 charges.
The case involves irregularities at the private university, which has since been renamed the University of Business and Applied Sciences Varsovia, and has led to the detention of about 30 people, including the former rector and a former Member of the European Parliament, with most charges directed at the former rector.
