The survey, commissioned by the ruling Civic Coalition (KO), shows Trzaskowski defeating a candidate from the populist-nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party in both the first and second rounds of voting.
Trzaskowski leads, Sikorski trails in first round
According to the poll results announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Monday, Trzaskowski garners 40% of the vote in the first round against PiS's 28%, extending his lead to 57% versus 43% in the runoff. Meanwhile, Radosław Sikorski, Poland’s foreign minister and another potential KO candidate, trails the PiS challenger 28% to 30% in the first round but recovers to win the second round with 54% to 46%.
"These results are decisive but still only a guide," Tusk wrote on X. "The power to decide lies with your vote!" The premier did not specify the polling methodology or sample size.
The poll comes just days before the KO primary, set for Friday, where party members from PO, Nowoczesna, Inicjatywa Polska, and the Greens will choose between Trzaskowski and Sikorski as their presidential candidate. The results will be announced on Saturday, with the winner scheduled to unveil their campaign platform on December 7 in Silesia.
PiS yet to name candidate
The competition to challenge PiS's nominee intensifies as the opposition finalizes its choice. PiS, which has not yet announced its candidate, is expected to make its decision this week. Tobiasz Bocheński, a member of the European Parliament and a possible contender, hinted on Monday that an announcement could come as early as Saturday. "I’m definitely in the leading pack," Bocheński stated.
