“Piotrek Pytlakowski has passed away. A man of great integrity and a big heart,” Łazarewicz shared on social media.
Pytlakowski died after a long illness. He wrote several books about organized crime groups in Poland and extensively covered criminal cases throughout his career.
Beyond investigative journalism, he also worked as a screenwriter, contributing to productions such as the popular Polish TV series Alfabet mafii ("The Mafia Alphabet").

Since 1997, he had been a contributor to the weekly Polityka, following earlier work with publications such as Nowa Wieś, Przegląd Tygodniowy, Gazeta Wyborcza, Życie Warszawy, and Życie.
Before pursuing journalism, he also worked as a sleeper car conductor and hospital orderly, according to Press magazine.
