Polish farmers plan to protest in central Warsaw on Friday, aiming to draw the attention of European Union leaders—including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen—to what they describe as pressing issues affecting agriculture.

Organizers say the demonstration, taking place under the “5 x STOP” banner, will spotlight opposition to the EU’s Green Deal, the Mercosur free trade agreement, and the import of Ukrainian agricultural products.

Protesters also condemn what they call the destruction of Poland’s forests and hunting traditions, as well as the “phasing out” of the Polish economy.

Participants will gather outside the European Commission’s Warsaw office and march to Teatralny Square starting at 2 p.m. local time. From 9 p.m. onward, they plan to assemble outside the Teatr Wielki (Grand Theatre), where an event marking the start of Poland’s presidency of the EU Council is set to take place.

“Our upcoming presidency of the EU Council should reflect farmers’ needs, especially on climate, trade, and future budgets,” Tomasz Obszański, leader of the NSZZ RI “Solidarność” union, told local media. Damian Murawiec, representing a nationwide farmers’ protest movement, added that many of the groups that demonstrated earlier last year will participate in Friday’s rally.
