The Secretary of State's declaration, and the express proceeding on the expected tightening of the law, is a response to a recent accident in Warsaw - in which a 14-year-old was fatally hit by a delivery car.

"We can make the change happen! The Ministry of Justice bill has been prepared, and we will start the parliamentary process in a few days. People violating the court ban on driving will soon be severely punished, as the changes we propose will hit them hardest"

- Arkadiusz Myrcha wrote on his X profile.

The 43-year-old driver, detained late Saturday evening as the likely culprit of Friday's hit-and-run, had an active driving ban. After his van hit the boy at a pedestrian crossing, the driver did not provide help but fled the scene instead. The teenager was taken to hospital, where he died from the injuries.

The man was questioned and heard charges on Sunday, and he admitted his guilt on all accounts - the spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, Piotr Antoni Skiba, informed. As per latest media reports - the Prosecutor's Office is likely demand even 25 years in prison for the driver, due to the multi-layered character of his crime.
