During a Tuesday interview with RMF FM, Hołownia ruled out the possibility of scheduling the election on May 4, which would fall immediately after Poland's long May holiday weekend, known as "majówka."
The politician noted that he plans to consult with Sylwester Marciniak, the head of the National Electoral Office of the State Electoral Commission, before making his decision.
"I will announce my decision tomorrow, and next Wednesday, I will formally set the election date. I hope it will be quickly published so that the presidential campaign can officially begin," Hołownia stated.
The official start of the election campaign in Poland will begin once the Speaker’s announcement scheduling the election is published in the official government journal, the Dziennik Ustaw.
Who has declared their run for the Polish presidency so far?
Candidates who have already declared their intention to run include Rafał Trzaskowski (Mayor of Warsaw and deputy leader of the Civic Platform, PO), Karol Nawrocki (head of the Institute of National Remembrance, IPN, supported by the Law and Justice party, PiS), Szymon Hołownia (leader of Poland 2050), Magdalena Biejat (Deputy Speaker of the Senate and candidate from the Left party), Sławomir Mentzen (member of parliament representing the Confederation party), Marek Jakubiak (member of the Free Republicans parliamentary group), and Marek Woch (representing the Nonpartisan Local Government movement).
