Speaking to YouTuber Dawid Mysior on Wednesday, Braun said, “I will stand in these elections, with God’s and people’s help,” adding that his bid would advance the interests of Polish Catholics in the next parliament.

Braun, who leads the Konfederacja Korony Polskiej faction, previously ran in the 2015 presidential election, securing just under 1% of the vote.

He announced his bid even though his Confederation party had already supported Sławomir Mentzen as its presidential candidate.

In response, the broader Konfederacja alliance expelled Braun from its ranks.

Besides Braun and Mentzen, other declared contenders include:

  • Magdalena Biejat (Lewica), Deputy Speaker of the Senate
  • Katarzyna Cichos (Independent)
  • Szymon Hołownia (Polska 2050), Speaker of the Sejm
  • Marek Jakubiak (Wolni Republikanie)
  • Karol Nawrocki (backed by the country’s previous, nationalist populist government, PiS)
  • Piotr Szumlewicz (Związkowa Alternatywa)
  • Rafał Trzaskowski (Warsaw Mayor, KO Vice-chair)
  • Marek Woch (Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy)
  • Adrian Zandberg (Razem co-leader and MP)

Poles head to the polls for the first presidential round on May 18.
