By the end of November, Germany had provided temporary protection to a total of 1,152,620 Ukrainians, more than any other EU country, according to the Eurostat agency.
Among EU member states for which data are available, Poland came in second with 987,925.
In all, 4.2 million non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine as a consequence of Moscow's war of aggression against Kyiv had temporary protection status in the EU as of November 30, 2024, according to the EU statistics office.
Compared with the end of October, the number of beneficiaries in Poland increased by 4,045, or 0.4 percent, it said.
Temporary protection is a procedure used in the event of a mass influx of displaced persons from third countries who are unable to return to their country of origin, Eurostat said.
