In parallel, the European Parliament’s budget committee approved a separate €250 million plan to construct a new Frontex headquarters in Warsaw, Euractiv reported.

Szłapka, who chaired Tuesday’s ministerial meeting in Brussels under Poland’s six-month presidency of the EU Council, told reporters the bolstered funding aligns with the Polish presidency’s priorities under the slogan “Security, Europe!”

“Security issues, including guarding and protecting the EU’s borders—an area overseen by Frontex—are critically important for our presidency,” Szłapka said. “It is also significant that Frontex is headquartered in Warsaw, so supporting this institution is very much in our interest.”

The minister noted he formally signed off on the financing package at Tuesday’s General Affairs Council meeting, adding that he remains optimistic about broader backing in the European Parliament.

Meanwhile, according to Euractiv, the Parliament’s budget committee on Wednesday endorsed a €250 million plan for a new Frontex headquarters in Warsaw, with 23 votes in favor, five against, and 10 abstentions.

“Given the increased role that Frontex will have to play in the coming years, it definitely merits the new headquarters,” said EPP budget spokesperson Monika Hohlmeier in a statement, cited by Euractiv.
