The talks come as the United States prepares to negotiate with Russia to end its war in Ukraine, Polish presidential aide Wojciech Kolarski told broadcaster RMF FM on Monday.

Senior US and Russian officials are expected to meet in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss a possible agreement on ending the nearly three-year war in Ukraine, according to a report.

The Saudi-hosted meeting aims to prepare for a summit between Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin and comes after the two leaders talked on the phone last week, the axios.com news website reported on Monday.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday that the coming days and weeks would determine whether Russian leader Vladimir Putin is serious about making peace in Ukraine, the Reuters news agency reported.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Monday marks the 1,089th day of the war.
