Turski devoted his life to promoting Polish-Jewish relations, advocating for Polish-German reconciliation, and preserving the memory of Polish Jews. He played a key role in the creation of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

Marian Turski, born in 1926 in Druskienniki, Lithuania, survived the horrors of the Łódź Ghetto, Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and two death marches during the Holocaust, losing nearly all of his family in the process.

After the war, he became a prominent figure in Polish journalism, serving as the history editor for Polityka magazine for nearly 70 years and playing a key role in the creation of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

Those Marian Turski's words will remain in our memory

Turski was a passionate advocate for Polish-Jewish relations and Polish-German reconciliation, frequently reminding people that "Auschwitz did not fall from the sky," urging society to learn from history's lessons. He also offered hope with his famous quote, "Do not be afraid at all," which he shared in his 2025 speech.

Marian Turski’s powerful words from the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, "If you are indifferent, you will not even notice it when upon your own heads, and upon heads of your descendants, some another Auschwitz falls from the sky," will remain among his most memorable.

His death was reported by Polityka, the magazine where he had been a long-time editor.
