On Saturday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, along with Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Minister of Internal Affairs Tomasz Siemoniak, visited the headquarters at the Polish-Belarusian border.
After briefing the command staff of the Polish Army, Border Guard, and Police, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that "a safe border and the security of our homeland are our basic duty."
"The soldiers of the Polish Army perform this mission every day, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We are very proud of them," he said. He also noted that "the safety of the service performed is key."
The Minister also referred to the cooperation of the Polish Army with the Border Guard and Police, as well as the joint administration. He emphasized that the key to success is cooperation. "Just like the unity of us all. In Poland, the issue of the Eastern Shield and a safe border is a raison d'état; some do not understand it," he added.
Meanwhile, the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Tomasz Siemoniak, talked about the December decision of the European Commission. "52 million euros (…) are to be spent on sealing the Polish-Belarusian and Polish-Russian borders. This will be used to build an asphalt road along the border and purchase drones and other ICT devices," he explained.
He announced actions "so that on rivers, watercourses, near water reservoirs and wetlands there are no situations at risk of illegal migrants crossing."
