Speaking during a visit to the Polish-Belarusian border, Tusk said that Poland was working with European partners to reinforce security along its eastern frontier.
“Both the Eastern Shield programme, which addresses the military aspect of border protection, and measures to prevent illegal crossings are shared responsibilities within Europe—specifically NATO, but primarily among European nations,” Tusk said on Saturday.
He added that securing funding to expand Poland’s border infrastructure is part of these efforts.
According to the Polish Border Guard, there have been more than 2,000 attempts to illegally cross the border since the start of the year, including 1,300 in March.
