"Only the EU, an economy comparable to the United States, can respond to new tariffs." - announced the head of Polish diplomacy via social media.

"In this field the EU is the strongest and the member states benefit from it. On their own against the powers i.e. China or the US they would be in a much worse position," - Minister Sikorski emphasized on his X (formerly Twitter) profile.

In this way, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs commented on the increase in tariff rates on imports to the United States, announced by Donald Trump during a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden.

The new rates range from 10% for most countries to 54% on Chinese goods. U.S. tariffs on products from the European Union will be set at 20%.

Canada and Mexico are subject to separate tariffs of 25%, which apply to most products. The separate 25% tariffs on cars and auto parts remain in place.

Poland and the EU react to Trump's tariff increases

The European Union has vowed to retaliate after President Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs on imports to the United States, further escalating the global trade war.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Finance Minister Andrzej Domański also commented on the issue.
