Poland has already placed restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats in response to alleged acts of sabotage – including arson – attributed to Russian intelligence, Poland's Rzeczpospolita daily reported.
Since June last year, Russian diplomats in Poland must remain within their assigned consular districts unless they notify the foreign ministry in Warsaw.
According to Rzeczpospolita, 21 Russian diplomats currently serve in Moscow's embassy in Warsaw and consulates in Gdańsk and Kraków.
Each trip beyond assigned areas must be cleared in advance, with the Polish foreign ministry confirming "no rejections" to date but declining to disclose destinations.
Poland and the Czech Republic are lobbying for an EU-wide ban limiting Russian diplomatic travel throughout the passport-free Schengen zone, a measure that would tighten oversight and help thwart potential sabotage or terror operations supported by diplomatic cover, Rzeczpospolita said.
