Officially titled "Documents and Materials of Wacław Godziemba-Maliszewski", the collection will be transferred to the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw, the Polish Press Agency, PAP, reported.
Wacław Godziemba-Maliszewski, an American expert in art conservation and authenticity verification, has dedicated years to gathering materials related to the Katyń Massacre, one of the most tragic and politically significant crimes of World War II. His collection includes wartime aerial photographs, maps, documents, and books that focus on war crimes, particularly those committed by Soviet forces.
Historians who conducted a preliminary assessment of the archive have emphasized its value. They point out that the collection is not only a rich source of factual information about historical events but also offers insight into how the Katyń Massacre has been understood and interpreted over time. Such materials are crucial for both academic research and public historical awareness.
Once transported to Poland, the archive will be housed in the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw, where it will be preserved and made available for further study.
The symbolic act of receiving the Katyń Archive underscores Poland’s ongoing efforts to preserve the memory of the Katyń Massacre and to ensure that historical truth is protected and passed on to future generations.
