The agency warned of widespread freezing on wet roads and pavements after rain, sleet and wet snow, particularly in the north-west and north of the country.

Temperatures were expected to fall to around –2°C, and to as low as –4°C at ground level.

These alerts apply from 8pm on Monday until 9am on Tuesday.

Further ice warnings were issued for parts of southern Poland - including areas around Kraków and the Silesian industrial region - with alerts taking effect from as early as 6pm on Monday.

Similar freezing conditions are forecast there, with minimum temperatures between –2°C and –6°C at ground level.

IMGW also maintained first-level alerts for heavy snowfall in parts of south-west Poland, notably in areas west of Wrocław, in effect until 7pm on Monday, where snow cover was already forming and a further 5–10cm was expected.

Heavy rain warnings remain in place for sections of south-eastern Poland - such as areas near Rzeszów and Kraków - until early Tuesday.

Earlier guidance from the agency noted that higher mountain districts in the south-west, above 700 metres, could see 10–15cm of new snow.
