The vote came as Brussels prepares to finalise the agreement, which was reached last year after more than 25 years of negotiations with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
However, the deal could still be blocked by a sufficiently large minority of EU member states, the Reuters news agency reported.
Supporters of the agreement, including Germany, Spain and Nordic countries, argue it would help European exporters facing US tariffs and reduce the bloc’s dependence on China by improving access to critical raw materials, according to Reuters.
Opponents, including Poland, warn that an influx of cheaper agricultural products could harm European farmers, it said.
Polish Agriculture Minister Stefan Krajewski called on Italy and other countries to join a blocking minority.
"The Mercosur deal is a gun to the head of the European farmer," Krajewski said in a statement.
Krajewski has previously said that Poland opposes the import of low-quality agricultural products from Mercosur countries.
He said in September that Warsaw was working with other EU capitals to assemble a blocking minority and, if that effort fails, would push for safeguards to protect Polish farmers.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki earlier that month vowed an effort to block the deal amid protests by farmers, while Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his government would not support the agreement, citing opposition from agricultural producers.
