The contract, announced by Poland’s Armaments Agency on the X platform on Tuesday, calls for the state-owned defence company Mesko to supply 23mm ammunition for the Pilica short-range air defence system and 30mm rounds for the Rosomak wheeled armoured fighting vehicle.
Pilica forms the lowest layer of Poland’s air defence network and is designed to protect military units and critical assets within a range of several kilometres, state news agency PAP reported.
The system integrates anti-aircraft guns with Grom and Piorun man-portable air defence missiles, also produced by Mesko.
The 30mm ammunition will be used by Rosomak armoured vehicles, which are a mainstay of Poland’s mechanised forces.
Mesko is part of the state-owned Polish Armaments Group (PGZ). It is Poland’s sole producer of casings for 155mm artillery ammunition used by Krab self-propelled howitzers and South Korean-made K9 Thunder systems operated by the Polish military.
Earlier this year, the government injected PLN 2.4 billion (EUR 570 million) into PGZ, with PLN 887 million (EUR 210 million) allocated to Mesko for expanded production capacity and new infrastructure, the PAP news agency reported.
