"Our aircraft intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance plane over international waters in the Baltic Sea," Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X.
He described the incident as "another aggressive action" by Russia and a test of Poland's air defence systems, warning that flights without activated transponders can pose a risk to other aircraft.
The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said the aircraft was flying in international airspace without a filed flight plan and with its transponders switched off, but did not violate Polish airspace.
"Any such provocation will be met with an immediate response from our pilots," Kosiniak-Kamysz added.
The Command said maintaining airspace security remains a priority, adding that Polish forces are on constant standby to respond quickly and ensure the protection of the country's skies.
