"I am glad we will be holding high-level talks, and Polish-Hungarian relations can return to that high level where they once were", Magyar told reporters in Krakow following a meeting with Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś, the city's archbishop.

Magyar said he is accompanied by six Hungarian ministers, including Foreign Minister Anita Orban, Minister for Social Relations and Culture Zoltan Tarr, and Transport and Investment Minister David Vitezy.

On Wednesday, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Donald Tusk, President Karol Nawrocki, and the speakers of both chambers of parliament in Warsaw, before traveling to Gdańsk to meet former President Lech Wałęsa.

On restoring ties, Magyar said the path forward is straightforward: "We simply need to return to normalcy — to talk about what unites us, not what divides us".

He also set his sights on the broader region, saying his government aims to strengthen the Visegrad Group — the cooperation platform of Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary — and potentially expand it. "Our goal is to strengthen the Visegrad Group and even enlarge it, for example with Austria or other countries. I think this cooperation has its best days ahead, not behind it", he said.

Asked about changes in Hungary's diplomatic postings, Magyar defended the recall of Ambassador Istvan Ijgyarto from Warsaw, saying such reshuffling after a change of government is "quite normal". Foreign Minister Orban announced the recall Monday, writing on X that "a new era requires a new approach".
