Russia launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region on Sunday, killing four civilians and wounding about 100 others, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Earlier, Russia’s foreign ministry said the Russian military was preparing a series of strikes against military and industrial facilities in Kyiv and advised foreigners and diplomatic missions to leave the city as soon as possible.
In a statement on Monday, Poland’s foreign ministry said it continued to "regard all attacks on Ukraine, including those targeting civilian infrastructure and civilians, as acts of unjustified aggression causing extensive human and material losses."
The ministry added that because Russia insists it is conducting what it calls a "special military operation" rather than a war—supposedly limited to military targets—any attacks on other infrastructure, including diplomatic missions, should be considered hostile acts.
"Any case of a strike on Polish diplomatic missions will therefore be treated as deliberate and intentional," the ministry said.
The statement added that Russia’s actions carry “serious international legal consequences” and further undermine its role as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
Poland called on Russia to immediately halt what it described as an unlawful and unjustified aggression and to comply with its international obligations and treaties.
Russia’s foreign ministry said the attacks on Kyiv were retaliation for what it described as a deliberate Ukrainian drone strike on Friday on a teaching building and dormitory in the occupied city of Starobilsk in Ukraine’s Luhansk region.
Ukraine denied the accusation, saying the target was a unit directing drone attacks. Russian-installed authorities said 21 people were killed and 42 injured in the strike on Starobilsk.
