Poland's Institute of Meteorology and Water Management IMGW, as well as the country's Government Security Center RCB, have issued heat warnings for the entire country, which will be in effect for the coming days. Daytime temperatures on Sunday could reach up to +42°C.

The Institute has issued level 3 heatwave warnings for majority of Poland the regions of Lubusz, Greater Poland, Lower Silesia, Kuyavia-Pomerania, Masovia, Łódź, Opole, Świętokrzyskie and Lublin - as well as for a significant part of the West Pomerania, Podlaskie, Subcarpathia, Lesser Poland, Silesia and Southern Pomerania (see map below). The rest of the country is covered by level 2 warnings - and both will be in force until 8 PM on Monday.

Due to the heat, Poland's Government Security Center has also sent out text message alerts to all Polish mobile numbers. "Warning! Heat is forecast. Avoid sun exposure and physical exertion. Stay hydrated. Wear a hat and light clothing" - the RCB warning said.

Furthermore, IMGW announced second-degree violent storm warnings from 3 PM on Sunday until Monday morning for the northern part of the country. Flash heavy rainfall and hail may accompany the storms, as well as wind gusts reaching up to 100 km/h.

Poland's third-degree meteorological warnings are reserved for the occurrences of "dangerous meteorological phenomena possibly causing significant damage up to catastrophic proportions, as well as threat to health and life".
