Russian Ambassador Georgy Mikhno was summoned to the foreign ministry in Warsaw, where he was handed the protest, ministry spokesman Maciej Wewiór said.

"Poland, in a gesture of solidarity with our ally, delivered a categorical protest against Russian state terrorism and the escalation of hybrid operations, both in our country and in other sovereign states, including Germany," Wewiór said on X.

He said the Russian envoy was also told of Poland’s "firm opposition to repeated provocations near our airspace."

Wewiór said Russian military aircraft were violating safety standards by operating without their identification systems switched on and posing a threat to civilian aviation.

"In the face of hostile actions by the Russian Federation, allies stand together," Wewiór said.

Poland on Wednesday expressed solidarity with Germany in opposing what it described as Russian "acts of sabotage" and "terrorist activities."

The German government said on Tuesday that Russia was behind an attempted drone attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport last month.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Wednesday that the Leipzig attack bore all the hallmarks of state-sponsored terrorism.
