The two-day ReInfo event, organised by the University of Białystok and the Zamenhof Institute Foundation, a Warsaw-based think tank, brings together experts, representatives of various organisations, public administration officials, technology-sector executives and media professionals.
The programme covers cybersecurity, influence operations by third countries, the psychology of manipulation, media education, the role of the media in combating fake news and practical fact-checking workshops.
Organisers say Poland needs a coherent and systemic approach to information security, arguing that efforts to date have been fragmented across different levels.
Adam Bartnicki, dean of the University of Białystok's Faculty of International Relations and a member of an expert advisory team on information security at the Prime Minister's Office, said Poland needs an institution to coordinate those efforts.
He said the country also needed a comprehensive, long-term programme to counter disinformation, replacing activities carried out on an "ad hoc, reactive and random basis."
Bartnicki also highlighted the importance of education in combating disinformation.
He said one of the recommendations being prepared would be to introduce mandatory academic courses aimed at building societal resilience.
