Commemorations scheduled for Wednesday included a mass, an unveiling of a memorial plaque and a special historical spectacle accompanied by music concerts.
Acclaimed Polish musicians such as jazz singer Stanisław Soyka, popular songwriter Czesław Mozil and progressive rock pioneer and SBB band founder Józef Skrzek were set to play during the event.
The uprising that started in Mysłowice 100 years ago was the first in a series of three armed insurgencies in what is now Poland’s southern Upper Silesia region, in which ethnic Poles from 1919 to 1921 fought to break away from Germany and join newly independent Poland.
The lower house of the Polish parliament last July designated 2019 the Year of the Silesian Uprisings.
