Speaking on “European 112 Day,” which is marked annually on February 11, Morawiecki said: "Without you, dear 112 operators, many lives would not have been saved.”
He added: “For a normal person, saving a human life in everyday circumstances is rare, exceptional. In your case ... you face such problems very frequently."
112 has been an emergency number in all EU countries for 12 years, allowing callers to summon help from the police, fire brigade and ambulance services.
European 112 Day was introduced by the European Union and aims to promote the existence and appropriate use of the emergency number.
Poland has 17 centres which pick up emergency calls. They employ over 1,300 people, who answered more than 22 million calls for help last year.
