Piotr Zaremba, CEO of ElectroMobility Poland (EMP), the company coordinating the project, said: "This is a very important moment… We will announce the name of the marque and show the prototypes. Top Polish and international experts were involved in creating them."

The premiere of the prototypes was due to take place by the end of this month but was postponed amid the COVID-19 epidemic. The presentation on July 28 will be held online.

The production of Polish electric cars is due to start in 2023, state news agency PAP reported.

ElectroMobility Poland was set up in 2016, with four energy companies –  PGE, Energa, Enea and Tauron – each holding a 25 percent stake.

At the end of 2018, international decision makers gathered at a UN climate conference in southern Poland adopted a Polish-drafted declaration calling on countries worldwide to increase the role of eco-friendly electric transport.

The Polish prime minister said at the time that his country aimed to pour at least EUR 3 billion into electromobility over the next 10 years.
