The death toll increased by 621, the second-highest number of daily fatalities this year, according to public health authorities.
A total of 2,356,970 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland since the start of the pandemic, and 53,665 have died in connection with the COVID-19 respiratory disease so far, officials said on Thursday.
Poland’s previous daily record was when 35,143 new coronavirus infections were confirmed nationwide on March 26.
Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, 5,997 were in the southern coal mining region of Silesia.
Meanwhile, 4,806 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.
The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań, had the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Thursday, at 4,056.
The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 491 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 130 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.
On Wednesday, Poland confirmed 653 deaths and 32,874 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 461 deaths and 20,870 fresh cases a day earlier.
On November 25, the country reported its highest daily toll of 674 deaths related to the coronavirus.
Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.
31,811 in hospitals, 468,310 quarantined
The health ministry announced on Thursday morning that 31,811 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 3,143 of them on ventilators, with a further 468,310 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.
Meanwhile, 1,882,179 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 20,254 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
