Poland confirms 3,451 new coronavirus cases, 22 more deaths

Poland on Monday reported 3,451 new coronavirus infections and 22 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,762,323 and fatalities to 65,437.

Of the new cases confirmed on Monday, 565 were in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

Meanwhile, 506 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The southwestern province of Dolnośląskie, which is home to the major city of Wrocławhad the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Monday, at 330.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 18 people with pre-existing medical conditions and four who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On SundayPoland confirmed 193 deaths and 7,219 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 513 deaths and 9,505 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

27,137 in hospitals, 195,426 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Monday morning that 27,137 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 3,101 of them on ventilators, with a further 195,426 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,455,005 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 15,593 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
