Poland reports 5,709 new coronavirus cases, 460 more deaths

Poland on Tuesday reported 5,709 new coronavirus infections and 460 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,768,034 and fatalities to 65,897.

Of the new cases confirmed on Tuesday, 817 were in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

Meanwhile, 700 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The central province of Łódzkie, which is home to Poland's third-largest city of Łódźhad the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Tuesday, at 592.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 361 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 99 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On MondayPoland confirmed 22 deaths and 3,451 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 193 deaths and 7,219 fresh cases day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

26,925 in hospitals, 193,781 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Tuesday morning that 26,925 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 3,041 of them on ventilators, with a further 193,781 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,467,036 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 12,031 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
