Entitled ”Chopin Forever,” the project was developed in association with 12 partners from six countries, including the digital platform Google Arts & Culture, which hosts the exhibition at artsandculture.google.com/project/chopin.
At the unveiling of the online showcase, held at the Polish capital's Chopin Museum on Wednesday to coincide with the finals of the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition, organisers described the project as the first-ever, one-of-a-kind web presentation of the great composer’s life story.
Made up of 50 smartphone-friendly mini-exhibitions, it combines words, images and music to profile Chopin and his timeless contribution to Polish and world culture.
“We also invited experts to discuss various intriguing themes, from Chopin’s presence in popular culture, in movies, to his influence on people’s mental wellbeing and health, and finally the story of his illness and passing,” the Chopin Museum’s Paweł Siechowicz said.
The exhibition features photographs of Chopin’s letters and musical manuscripts, highlighting key facts from his life, as well as audio and video recordings, many of which were made especially for the online collection, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Fans can listen to six hitherto-unreleased, renovated and digitised recordings of performances of Chopin’s music, dating as far back as 1905, and go on a virtual tour of key sites related to the iconic composer, such as his birthplace in Żelazowa Wola near Warsaw, the state PAP news agency reported.
