A 100-strong group on Friday attempted to force their way through the border fence near the northeastern village of Białowieża, Border Guard spokeswoman Anna Michalska said on Saturday. The soldiers received only minor injuries, she added.
“The attackers were driven to the border line in trucks by Belarusians and at 6 pm started crossing forcibly by throwing objects at Polish guards, such as stones, pieces of wood and border fence," Michalska elaborated.
She noted that “at the same time, Belarusian guards kept blinding Polish services with lasers and strobe lights.”
In the last 24 hours, Polish services thwarted 206 attempts to illegally enter the country, Michalska also said.
On Thursday, a Polish soldier was injured when a group of nearly 200 migrants tried to cross the Polish border near the village of Czeremcha, north-eastern Poland.
Since the start of the year, there have been over 37,000 attempts at illegal crossing from Belarus, including more than 8,000 in November alone, the border agency's data showed.
Poland has been struggling to stem a wave of migrants trying to cross its eastern border from Belarus. EU members accuse the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, of instigating the crisis in order to destabilise the bloc.
