Afterwards Duda thanked Zourabichvili for the talks and added he would be holding further discussions with foreign partners in the coming days, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
“I have spoken to French President Emmanuel Macron and the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who invited me to Brussels for Monday, for further consultations,” the Polish president said.
“I thank President Zourabichvili for giving me the opportunity to share my knowledge and my view from this other side of Ukraine,” Duda added.
“Ukraine is our neighbour, and so we look with great concern at the situation which is taking place there,” the Polish head of state told the media.
Zourabichvili said aggression towards Kyiv was taking various forms, from cyberattacks to the buildup of Russian troops near Ukraine’s border.
She added that what mattered most now was de-escalation, and that countries from the West as well as the East should participate in this process, the IAR news agency reported.
“Georgia is a country which knows perfectly well what an occupation is,” Zourabichvili stated. “Our solidarity stems from events in the past because a part of our territory is under occupation.”
She added: “And so it is very important for us to oppose aggression together and cultivate peace in the world.”
The Georgian president also thanked Duda and Poland for supporting her country’s drive to join the European Union.
Duda's office later said that “Georgia, as well as other countries of the region, can count on Polish support, including for its efforts to integrate with the West.”
Duda stopped in Tbilisi on his way to Beijing, where he plans to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games on Friday.
